Who we are -
Gruhe Architects is a Chartered Architects practice established in 2008, with work experience from the UK and overseas. We specialise in traditional and contemporary solutions that are environmentally sustainable and contextual.
The practice experience covers Residential, Masterplanning, Commercial, Ecclesiastical & Light Industrial sectors. However, Michael & Pearl Cooray have had a wider exposure of working on projects in Education, Entertainment, Custodial, Healthcare, Hospitality, Retail and large scale Master-planning, with 3 decades of post qualification experience between them.
Both Michael & Pearl are passionate about using their skills to help people have access to good quality housing. Having firm roots in Sri Lanka, they volunteered their time to help with post tsunami rebuilding in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka along with Studio Libeskind, New York. Michael was also involved in the outline planning of a gated facility for people with albinism in Tanzania.
Michael & Pearl volunteered for ten years on the RIBA 'Ask an Architect' stalls at 'Grand Designs' and the 'Home Building & Renovating Show' (ExCel, London and the NEC, Birmingham), and took part in the previously popular 'Architect in the house’ (a RIBA initiative raising funds for 'Shelter').
They have also organised design surgeries in Birmingham and London offering free sessions to the public via pre-booked appointments. They would also like to raise funds through these surgeries for charitable causes.
Currently a team of 5, Gruhe Architects delivers excellence with enthusiasm.
