Who we are

ABOUT US

Gruhe Architects began in 2008 as a RIBA Chartered Architects Practice. Our work experience is from the UK & overseas covering Residential, Masterplanning, Commercial, Ecclesiastical & Light Industry.

Prior to Gruhe, our work experience has covered projects in Education, Entertainment, Custodial, Healthcare, Hospitality, Retail & large scale Master-planning.

At Gruhe, our solutions are traditional and contemporary but always contextual, with a strong consideration for environmentally friendly choices, design practicality and the play of natural light. Our product carefully considers how it could be tailored to be best used by a particular client / requirement.

We are passionate about making architecture accessible and affordable for all and keen to use our skills to help communities have better quality housing as our world tackles poverty and global warming amidst so much uncertainty.

With firm roots in Sri Lanka, we have volunteered with a post tsunami rebuilding project supporting Studio Libeskind, New York. Michael has also been involved in outline planning for a gated facility for people with albinism in Tanzania. We have volunteered on the RIBA 'Ask an Architect' stalls at many national building exhibitions (including 'Grand Designs', & the 'Home Building & Renovating Show' at London ExCel & the NEC, Birmingham), and   also particpated in the previously popular 'Architect in the house’ (a RIBA initiative supporting 'Shelter').

BBC East Midlands news & Channel 5 have featured two of our projects - proposals for the Water Tower in Newark which was welcomed by the community, and an extension to a house in Kings Heath, Birmingham which was used to demonstrate exemplary design.

Gruhe has also conducted design surgeries in Birmingham & London offering free sessions to the public via pre-booked appointments while raising funds for charitable causes such as 'Samaritan's Purse'.

Currently an extended team of 5, Gruhe Architects delivers a tailored, personal response.

We also work with -
Paul Burguess, Chartered Town Planner at Lewis & Co. (https://www.lewisplanning.co.uk/9/Paul-Burgess)
Peter Brooks, Structural Engineer at Brooks Structural Ltd.

What we do

At Gruhe our clients can expect to recieve a tailored service - from a feasibility study through to practical completion on site, or simply to suit a the specific requirement of a project - such as an Options Appraisal, up-to a Statutory Application or Final Completion on site.

We strive to achieve high quality design that understands and exceeds requirements and expectations - while adding value.

We offer advise on the requirement for other consultants - such as structural, mechanical / electrical engineers, quantity surveyor, party wall surveyor and also assist our clients with the appointment of a building contractor.

Our service covers all finishes and lighting, as well as the detailed internal arrangement of spaces.

We use traditional hand sketching for much of our concept work which is then transferred to Revit BIM modelling software. This enables three-dimensional development / comprehension of buildings and spaces, along with the ease of using a single file between the design team consultants which reduces the risk of error.
